Alfa Romeo 75 Turbo Evoluzione

It is no coincidence that this model has the appearance of a racing car, since the FIA required Alfa Romeo to manufacture 500 units, with aerodynamics identical to that of the 75 that would compete in Group A rally, in order to be homologated.

Under the hood, was the traditional 1.8 naturally aspirated gasoline engine of the Italian brand, to which a Garrett AirResearch T3 turbocharger had been incorporated, to increase power to 156 hp.

A couple of curiosities? This car had a rear limited slip differential, on the sides of which were the rear brake discs (they were not behind the rims). In addition, it was the last rear-wheel drive model of the Italian firm, until the appearance of the current Giulia.

Audi 200 Turbo

At a time when Audi was slightly behind BMW and Mercedes-Benz, the 200 Turbo saloon was born to turn this around.

It was powered by a 2,144 cc five-cylinder petrol engine, fitted with a KKK turbocharger, to develop a total of 182 hp. Something that made it the most powerful front-wheel drive car on the market.

In addition, with an acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 8.1 seconds and a top speed of 230 km / h, it offered performance comparable to that of the best six-cylinder in-line engines of the moment.

BMW 2002 Turbo

Developed by BMW Motorsport, the 2002 Turbo was the first European series-produced vehicle to be equipped with a turbocharger.

Specifically, it was powered by the M10 engine, with 2.0 liters of displacement, associated with a KKK turbocharger, which allowed it to develop a whopping 170 hp at 5,800 rpm, to displace the 1,090 kilos of the set.

Combined with a four-speed manual gearbox, this BMW offered huge performance for the time: it reached 209 km / h and accelerated from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.3 seconds.

Without a doubt, a car as brilliant as it was difficult to drive, since the rear drive and the tires, with only 185 millimeters in section, made it difficult to transmit all the power to the ground.

Granted, the CX 25 GTi Turbo 2 may not be the most famous turbocharged model ever. But here are a few facts, to give you an idea of the performance of this saloon, born in the mid-80s.

Thanks to its 2.5-liter mechanics, equipped with a Garrett T3 turbocharger, it developed 168 hp, which allowed it to accelerate from 0 to 1,000 meters in less than 30.0 seconds and exceed 210 km / h of maximum speed. Without a doubt, a more than remarkable figure for a car that exceeds 1,500 kilos in weight.

On the other hand, this Citroën incorporated a hydropneumatic suspension, something that made it one of the brightest models on the market, for a balance between comfort and stability.

Ferrari GTB Turbo

He was one of the Ferraris that benefited from the turbocharging experience acquired by the brand in F1.

In this way, the GTB Turbo was equipped with a gasoline engine, in rear position, with V8 architecture, 2.0 liters of displacement and an IHI turbocharger that blew at 1.05 bar of pressure. In total, it developed 254 hp of power, which was equivalent to 127 hp / liter … a record figure in the 1980s.

Without a doubt, that a V8 engine ‘only’ has 2.0 liters of displacement is unusual. However, in 1986, the year this vehicle appeared, models exceeding 2,000 cc were heavily taxed in Italy.

Only 308 units of this supercar were manufactured, capable of reaching 253 km / h and accelerating, from 0 to 100, in 6.3 seconds.

Fiat Coupe 16V Turbo

The Fiat Coupé 16 V Turbo is the result of a curious mixture: a body designed by Pininfarina, the Type 2 platform, which used, among others, the Fiat Tipo, and the engine of the Lancia Delta HF Turbo.

Specifically, it was a turbocharged gasoline engine, with 2.0 liters of displacement, which developed 195 HP. Thanks to her, this spectacular coupe accelerated from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.5 seconds and pushes the speedometer needle up to 225 km / h.
